HARRINGTON, DE - July 23, 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

After a bit of rain came sunshine, ribbons and fun for several young participants at the Delaware State Fair on Saturday, July 22.

After a morning shower, "life as usual" resumed on the fairgrounds with riveting rides, active concessionaires and various contests, including the K’NEX Model Building contest which took place in the Grove Picnic Area. Seven contestants participated in two separate classes. There were 2 contestants in the 5 to 8 year old class and 5 contestants in the 9 to 13 year old class. Each was instructed to build models made of K'NEX building materials. K’NEX is the number one construction toy company in the non-brick category which offers exceptional play value through building and bringing models to life.

K’NEX building materials were provided to each contestant by the Delaware State Fair. Each contestant was allotted 60 minutes to complete the model, and to ensure fairness, each exhibitor was required to build their model on-site. Models were judged on originality, detail and design and the incorporation of the Fair’s theme, “Blue Ribbon Days & Hot Country Nights.” The contestants each built very unique models. In the 5 to 8 year old class, the 1st place winner was Rachel Winston of Milford. Rachel built a small swing representing rides at the Fair. The 2nd place winner was Daniel Winston of Milford.

In the 9 to 13 year old class, the 1st place winner was Joy Winston from Milford, who constructed two country western singers, with one playing a guitar which was representative of this year’s fair theme. The 2nd place winner was Andrew West from Harrington who created 3 harness racing sulkies--complete with horses and drivers. The 3rd place winner was Jonathan Winston of Milford, who constructed a ‘Jimmy Neutron’ car and a small ferris wheel.

The winners received monetary prizes and ribbons. The 1st place winner received $50.00, the 2nd place winner received $35.00, and the 3rd place winner received $20.00. In addition, the 1st place winning model in each class will remain on display in Comcast Kids’ World for the duration of the Fair.###
