FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Centre Ice Rink at Delaware State Fair is scheduled to open for a fifth season on September 5. Prior to opening, The Centre is hosting pre-registration for all ice skating, figure skating, ice hockey and off-ice training programs from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 30 and Friday, September 1. Registration will continue, however, well into September.

"We've had an amazing first four years, and we're looking forward to seeing what the 2006-2007 season brings," said The Centre's manager, James Breidenstine. “After four solid years of skating, several local figure skaters and ice hockey players have developed into strong competitors. We’re making a name for ourselves at hockey tournaments and at figure skating competitions—even on the regional level.”

According to Breidenstine, The Centre Ice Rink is also making capital improvements. “We’re dedicated to providing a quality product.” Breidenstine is referring to the ice. The Centre’s staff is specially trained and certified in the creation of ice each August, utilizing the best equipment to create a smooth, solid surface. Breidenstine added that the team has learned a few tricks along the way with regard to placing the hockey lines in the ice which saves time and money. Breidenstine also added that The Centre now owns a synthetic ice surface which will allow skaters to perform at various indoor and outdoor locations. “Our skaters performed at the Delaware State Fair and recently at the Dover Mall. We’ll be able to perform at other community events showcasing our skater’s talents.” The synthetic surface is a bit more giving than normal ice. In fact, The Centre has plans for novice skaters and small children to begin on the synthetic surface with lessons and eventually move to the actual ice.

In addition to the many popular figure skating and hockey programs offered, The Centre also offers an organized Adult Ice Hockey League and an In-House Youth Hockey League. According to Breidenstine, both programs have updated ice times and content for the new season. For new or displaced adult hockey players looking for a team in an appropriate division, The Centre offers an invitation to skate with experienced league members on September 10 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. for evaluation.
