On Wednesday evening, the Delaware State Fair Senior Board of Directors was introduced to six newly-elected Junior Fair Board members. The purpose of the Fair’s Junior Board is to develop leadership and interpersonal skills of youth and to expand the Delaware State Fair’s volunteer base while increasing visibility and impact of the Fair. The Junior Board consists of 12 members--four from each Delaware county. If the Delaware State Fair is unable to recruit four from each county, it may solicit additional members from another county. This year’s new members include: Jacob Berninger, Wilmington; Laura Emerson, Middletown; Melinda Kaiser, Hartly; Tiffany Snyder, Seaford; Kaila Jo Tatman, Milford; and Emily Vincent, Harrington.
These six youth have accepted the duty of supporting the Delaware State Fair for two years by meeting and making recommendations to be submitted to the Senior Fair Board as well as offering volunteer hours during the 10-day event.
Current Junior Board members include: Whitney Betts, Felton; Christine Evans, Newark; Amber Miller, Bridgeville; Rebecca Myers, Wyoming; Samantha Steele, Milford; and Amanda Urian, Clayton.
All Junior Board members must be between the ages of 15 and 21 at the time of their appointment and should represent all facets of interest in the Fair, including: 4-H, FFA, entertainment, exhibits, office work, marketing, and welcoming. Members are required to contribute a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer service during pre-Fair week and 20 hours of volunteer service during the Fair.
