Brittany Abbott - Seaford, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 21, 2003
Brittany, 17, is a Junior at Seaford High School where she is a member of the girl's varsity soccer team. She maintains an honor roll quality grade point average and participates in several service clubs. In addition, Brittany has an extraordinary talent for riding horses, and was named the 2002 Canadian National Reserve Champion in Hunt Seat Equitation. Brittany is an intensely focused and dedicated competitor. Brittany's mother is Terri Faison.
Sonide Blanchard - Seaford, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 18, 2003
Sonide, 17, is a Senior at Seaford High School where she spends two hours a day tutoring Haitian students in the English as a Second Language program. She also volunteers in her neighborhood by translating important documents and communicating with everyone from city officials to store clerks. Sonide's strong sense of dedication and responsibility have been key to her accomplishments. Sonide was recently honored by receiving the Prudential Spirit of Community Award as Delaware's top high school volunteer. Sonide's parents are Solange Blanchard and Hiller Orilien.
Julian Freeman - Dover, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 19, 2003
Julian, 14, is a seventh grade student at Central Middle School in Dover. Julian performed a heroic act by alerting a responsible adult when he found an infant abandoned in a trash bin near his home. Julian's caring and quick thinking saved the baby's life. Julian's mother is Alesia Freeman.
Tom Harmon - Bear, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 25, 2003
Tom, 17, is a Junior at Delcastle Technical High School. He has won one of the first awards for high school students from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his skateboarding video, which he wrote, videotaped, voiced and edited himself. Tom hopes to eventually develop a career in the field of videography after attending college. Tom's parents are Mary and Jack Harmon.
Philip Harris - Dover, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 20, 2003
Philip, 16, is a Sophomore at Polytech High School. At the age of 13, as a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Philip was named the youngest ever Cadet Commander of the Dover Composite Squadron, Delaware Wing. Philip also received the Youth Achievement Award from the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame for his work with the Junior ROTC and the Civil Air Patrol. Some of his other interests include playing in his school's jazz and marching bands and working with Meals on Wheels. Philip hopes to someday work as an air traffic controller or a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force. Philip's parents are Raymond and Angie Harris.
Brandon Hastings - Milford, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 26, 2003
Brandon, 18, is a Senior at Milford High School, and has cystic fibrosis. In spite of this disadvantage, Brandon became 4-year member of the Milford High School swim team and its captain during his senior year. With a zest for life and a willingness to lead as an example to others, Brandon continues to be active in sports, 4-H, school, and church activities. Brandon's parents are Dawn and Steve Hastings.
Jeffrey Lawson - Newark, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 23, 2003
Jeff, 13, is a seventh-grade student at St. Edmond's Academy, and is a peer mentor working with children with disabilities. He is also very active as a volunteer for Special Olympics. Jeff was recently honored by receiving the Prudential Spirit of Community Award as Delaware's top middle-school volunteer. Obviously, Jeff is a dedicated and selfless young man who sees projects through to completion. Jeff's parents are Jeffrey & Lisa and Rochelle.
Timothy Osgood - Magnolia, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 17, 2003
Tim, 17, is a Senior at PolyTech High School. He has been selected as part of the Future Farmers of America's National Chorus, which recently performed at the organization's 75th annual convention in Louisville, KY. Following a lengthy audition process, Tim performed in front of state judges, then submitted a tape of himself to the national selection committee. Tim has been singing his whole life and expresses his thankfulness for his gift by performing. Tim's parents are Jeff and Cathy Osgood.
Angelyn Tinsman - Georgetown, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 22, 2002
Angelyn, 16, is a sophomore who is home schooled and attends the Academic Challenge program at Delaware Technical & Community College. She was recently named the 2003 National Outstanding Young Volunteer of the Year. Angelyn oversees a county-wide benefit that she established five years ago collecting soda-can pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. Largely as a result of her efforts, a vanload of pull tabs is delivered to Philadelphia twice each year. Angelyn's parents are Jeffrey and Colleen Hogan-Tinsman.
Christopher Wegemer - Dover, DE
All-Star Youth of the Day: July 24, 2003
Chris, 17, graduated first in his class at St. Thomas More Academy in Dover, where he lettered in basketball, track and tennis. Chris also participated in student government and the school's newspaper. His response to having cystic fibrosis? Christopher says, "We need to live in the present and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering." A great philosophy by which we all should live. Christopher's parents are Christopher and Patricia Wegemer.
